My Name Is Kethi Copeland, I am an artist printmaker. I create original prints for the home; focused on cities and how these interconnect with our lives, senses and memories. I create original limited edition screen-prints and I also work with individuals to realise commissions of places that have particular significance to them.
All my prints are hand-crafted, I begin drawing on-site, wherever I find an intriguing cityscape. Place influences my work; my current work is focused on drawing London and offering new perspectives on familiar surroundings.
For my on going print series ‘A Walk By The River’ I make my drawings from the opposite bank of the Thames, the twists and turns of the river are rearranged to create one continuous line upon which both the well known and under-appreciated of London’s riverside architecture co-exist.
The process of drawing feels like taking a snapshot of an ever-changing city.
Hand printing the edition is central to how the final image takes shape. I choose the final colours through a process of colour mixing and making test prints, until a final combination and balance of colours is found.
Using the craft of silk screen-printing, I build up the image through multiple layers of print. Each layer requires a different stencil and is printed separately.
To capture the extreme detail I pay close attention to the registration of each of the layers, for my wide cityscape prints I use between 10 - 22 printed layers.
I print my artwork in editions, this means there are a limited number of each print, the last stage is to check each print and sign and number them.
